The Madison Video

They Call Me Madison

This film explores the intimate reflections sparked by a simple question, What does the Madison River mean to you? Set along Madison River Montana, the film features voices from across the community, ranchers, anglers, residents, and business owners, who share their personal history with the river and their concerns about its current struggles. These individuals are representative of an entire community whose lives, livelihoods, and identities are deeply connected to the real Madison River.

The Madison River is the lifeblood of the Madison Valley. It supports wildlife, aquatic insects, native plants, and a thriving human community. The river sustains working ranches, fuels local businesses, and draws visitors from around the world who come to experience one of Montana’s most iconic waters. The Madison River Foundation works to protect this irreplaceable watershed through conservation, restoration, and education.

Without a healthy Madison River, the ripple effects would be devastating. Fields would no longer produce reliable alfalfa for cattle. Anglers would seek other rivers. The loss of fishing and tourism dollars would squeeze local businesses, leading first to cutbacks, then to closures. As the economy faltered, families who have long called this valley home would be forced to leave.

So there’s really only one question that matters…What does the Madison River mean to you?
